On May 30, 2015 at the Lyons Outdoor Games in Lyons, Colorado, 44 people from around the world competed in the canoe and kayak slalom race. We had competitors from Spain, Sweden, Canada, and Germany as well as from all over the nation. Team Colorado had a large presence both on the course and the podium. The coach of Team Colorado, Alberto DiezCanedo of La Seu, Spain, took home first in K1 men open category with the fastest time on the course of 77.69.
Scott Shipley of Lyons, Colorado took home second with Max Karlsson of Erie, Colorado (from Sweden) grabbing third. In the K1 junior group, Oran Huff of Lyons, Colorado took first, Jimmy Bohn of Boulder, Colorado got second, and Max Haworth of Chattanooga, Tennessee took home third. For the K1 women open category, Hella Pannewig of Lyons, Colorado (originally from Wesel, Germany) took home first with the women’s fastest time of 102.35 followed by Terezka Brosova of Opava, Czech Republic in second and Emily Jackson of Rock Island, Tennessee taking third. In the K1 women junior category, Teagan JohnsonMoore of Lyons, Colorado took first with Katie Jackson of Birmingham, Alabama taking second, and Joslin Coggan of Boulder, Colorado grabbing third. In the C1 men open division, Charlie Kieft of Boulder, Colorado took home first followed by Spencer Huff of Lyons, Colorado in second and Dane Jackson of Rock Island, Tennessee grabbing third. Bryant Lord of Longmont, Colorado took home first in the C1 men junior class as well as winning the 2016 Jackson Kayak Zen in a drawing. Ben Peeples of Brighton, Colorado grabbed second and Oran Huff took home third. In the C2 division, Charlie Kieft and Joshua Denz of Fort Collins, Colorado took home first with Ben Peeples and Peter Coggan of Boulder, Colorado in second.

Team Colorado’s Alberto Diez, Marshal McQuillen and Spencer Huff also finished 3, 4 and 5 in the Creek Race on the South St. Vrain behind Dane Jackson and Nic Troutman.
